img_2057Greetings, Cyber Pals:

Welcome to the first of our CK Weekly Warm-Up posts! Each Monday, we’ll be presenting you with a challenge, a suggestion or a friendly nudge to help your creativity along—something connected to our current magazine issue. Feel free to add your own thoughts or questions. Let’s get our juices flowing together!

A few years ago I attended an event that included classes taught by Elsie Flannigan and Heidi Swapp. Talk about two chickadees who know how to get messy and have fun! I really learned that in order to grow and learn new things, I have to give my perfectionism some time off. So for today’s Warm-Up, it’s time to PLAY!

In your April 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes, Dream Teamer and all-around cool girl Kelly Purkey (and a few of her friends) offered four clever paint techniques. Check out her article on page 93, and select one idea to try on a page today!

1. Paint letters with Liquitex for a “frosted” look.

2. Accentuate patterned paper designs with a paint pen.

3. Create a quirky journaling block with imperfect painted lines.

4. Make artsy flower shapes with droplets of paint.

Don’t be afraid to channel your inner child and enjoy yourself. Remember, it’s only paper! Be sure to upload your finished masterpieces to our website gallery!
