With summer in full swing, I’m happy to bring you a few fun behind-the-scenes facts from the August 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes. So make yourself a glass of lemonade (make sure you add some fresh strawberries), and enjoy.
First up this month, I’d like to tell you a little bit about how the color palettes are chosen in “Seasonal Solutions” each month (page 27). These colors aren’t just randomly chosen—Lori Fairbanks, our Associate Writer, researches the popular colors of the season as well as which colors are being paired together. She then pulls together combinations that feel current and fit with the month’s theme, and she imagines how they would look together on a scrapbook page.

Next, let’s talk about vacations. We wanted to provide lots of fun travel and vacation ideas this month, so you’ll see those throughout the magazine this month.
One of the vacation features, Brittany Beattie’s “Enjoy a Creativity Vacation,” has many fun ideas to take a creative vacation near home. On page 94, you’ll notice her “Disneyland ABCs” framed wall display. This is very fitting of Brittany because she’s a huge fan of Disneyland—she has been many times and knows all the secrets. On her last trip, she decided to add a creative spin to her Disneyland picture-taking. She took many pictures of signs throughout the park and created this wall display. The fun part comes on their next trip—her family can go on a letter scavenger hunt with the photos she took!

How familiar are you with the ABCs of Disneyland? Post your guesses of where each letter came from in Disneyland in the comments section here, and I’ll randomly choose a person to win a fun package full of summer scrapbooking products perfect for recording your summer adventures! I’ll post the correct answers and winner on Thursday, July 16, 2009 .
Happy summer!

As an Australian I’ve never been to Disneyland and doubt I’ll get the chance so I have no idea where the letters are located. But I love the idea and I’ll be taking photos of my local area to create my own treasure hunt for my family soon! Thanks for the inspiration!

What a gorgeous project!! I’m not familiar with Disneyland (unfortunately!) but I’m sure her family will have so much fun going on the treasure hunt to find the letters! Thanks for the inspiration!

I think the I is from Indiana Jones ride and the Y is from Buzz Lightyear. Love the idea and think I might do the same with my town…no one but my family will care but it should be fun.

This is a hard challenge! The I definitely is from Indiana Jones, and the S looks like it could be from the Snow White ride? What a great idea!

Sadly, I’ve never been to Disneyland. Your picture is very creative and fun to look at though.

We went to Disneyland almost two years ago now and didn’t make it all the way through the park, so I don’t know. Hmm…that picture is tiny and very hard to see…but let me try to guess a couple:
B – Somewhere princess-y
G – Somewhere in Frontier Land
I – Indiana Jones
Q – Somewhere in Frontier Land
S – Small World
U – Looks Pirate of the Caribbean-ish, but I don’t know where it would be
W – Toontown somewhere?
X – Frontier Land, again?

It’s been over 20 years since I’ve been to Disneyland so I’m not sure about the letters. My little ones should be ready to make the trip in a few years.
I sure would love the summer scrapping prize!

Love the idea. The image is so small, I can’t see the details in the letters. If it’s one thing I’ve learned in my many trips to Disneyland, it is that the details are very important. I would guess and say say the “D” is from a Downtown Disney sign, the “F” is from the Fantasy Theater sign and the “N” from California Screamin’.
