Special Guest Blogger: Wendy Smedley

Wendy-SmedleyWow! Thanks for the opportunity to guest blog today. My name is Wendy Smedley, and I’m excited to be here.

Hard to believe that fall is all around us. As the season changes once again, it’s time to stop and celebrate accomplishments. To me, this is what scrapbooking is all about—photographing and writing about life’s grand and small triumphs.

Last month my family celebrated my mom’s 10-year-cancer-free anniversary. (She had breast cancer.) It was a time for us to recall some of the yucky stuff that happened and the good stuff that we witnessed. The most important aspect of my mom’s fight with cancer is the fact that we supported her. We visited, called, sent treats, shared books, and listened to her when she felt like talking.

To make my page commenorating my mom, I wanted to use glitter products, to symblize the happiness we all felt at this milestone.

Since the number 10 is an important piece on my page, I wanted to do something extra special with it. I decided to give it horizontal strips using glitter and paint. Here’s how I created this cool effect:

Macro_10Years

Step 1: Paint your chipboard white.

step-1

Step 2: Once the numbers are dry, lightly adhere double-stick tape in horizontal stripes. This will act as a mask.   step-2

Step 3: Apply a wet adhesive to the exposed areas of the chipboard and quickly sprinkle on the glitter. Let the numbers dry. step-3

Step 4: Peel back the tape to reveal your shining results!

step-4

Regardless of what you are commemorating this season, take the time to scrapbook it.

Breast Cancer Support
Speaking of products, earlier this week Megan shared some scrapbook products that correlate in some way with the fight against breast cancer. I recommend that you support those manufacturers however you can. So many women are affected by this disease. It’s wonderful that we can help through shopping.

Another way to show support of cancers of all types is Locks of Love. Ten months ago, Megan, Angie Lucas and I made a pack to grow our hair for this worthwhile organization. We don’t have enough length just yet, but we’re getting close. Check out our blogs today to see how far we’ve come!

This was taken the day Megan and I decided to grow our hair for Locks of Love.

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed our glitter playtime as much as I have. Remember, your moments and achievements are worth celebrating. Don’t be afraid to make those pages shine!

Wendy Smedley

CK, can anyone help me? I still don’t have my LO back from the last published Simple Scrapbooks issue–”Doggie Regrets.” I was working with Jennafer Martin on getting it back, but I haven’t heard from her since June. PLEASE help me get my layout back. Thanks you.
