Weekly Warm-Up: Delightful Fall Colors

Assistant Editor Joannie McBrideDid you know every issue of Creating Keepsakes showcases three color-palette combos in the “Seasonal Solutions” column? It’s true! Colors play a huge part in the mood of a layout and can be a key element in telling your story.

In the November issue, we highlighted colors that will create dramatic landscapes for your fall layouts.

The first combination (with cardstock from Bazzill Basics Paper) reminds me of the crisp, fall weather.

The second palette (with cardstock from Prism Papers) feels quite sweet, and it reminds me of the yummy food shared with friends and family during this time of year.

WW.3

The last (but surely not the least) combo (with cardstock from Wausau Paper) has a more elegant feel, with colors you might find in the decorations on a holiday table.

WW.2

Even though each combination is different from the others, I associate all three with fall. Since November is a time for sharing, I’d love to share three pages from the November issue that use color combinations similar to these combos—individually or collaboratively.

Let’s start with Kim Watson’s “Life with You Is Amazing” wall hanging on page 33. It’s a simply beautiful and wonderful tribute to her family about the gratitude she feels for having them in her life.

Heidi Sonboul’s “Colorful Leaves” page featured on page 35 is so charming, and the colors give her page a sense of autumn. Heidi’s handmade leaves create a unique and interesting background.

And finally, Laina Lamb’s “Thanksgiving” layout on page 84 uses fall colors in a subtle way. The layout honors Laina’s grandmother and her love for Thanksgiving and family.

No matter what fall photos you choose to scrapbook, you’ll find plenty of inspiration—and color combinations—inside the November 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes. Enjoy!

  1. The color palettes are one of my favorite parts of the magazine. I scan them from each issue and have them saved in my inspiration folder :)
