Year-in-Review Layouts

December 31, 2009 on 4:00 am | In Holidays | No Comments | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I’ve made my list, and I’ve checked it more than twice. Last year was definitely a year filled with all kinds of memories—and even some tough challenges. Regardless of which, I had plenty to scrap about. I hope you were able to scrapbook the moments that defined your life this past year.

If you haven’t had the chance, it’s not too late to create a layout with a snapshot of the highlights from your year, just as Noel Cutbertson did on this page.

Memories from 2009 can be a constant reminder of what’s really important in our lives and a motivation to focus on the little pleasures in life. Lori Anderson’s “Yes” layout is a great example.

"Yes" by Lori Anderson, as seen in the February 2009 issue of Creating Keepsakes

By documenting everyday routines, we can’t help but realize all the blessings we have in our lives! I love Becky Higgins’ “Celebrating the Everyday” layout. It showcases personalities, favorites, routines, and the love of family.

Speaking of celebrating, it’s also important to record the celebrations, holidays, and milestones throughout the year. I love how Lynn Ghahary scrapped a family holiday tradition.

  1. 2009 has been full of memeories, but the best memories for me are the simple things like the kids playing together, hearing lots of laughter, an I love you Mummy when I open my eyes in the morning, and simply sharing time together. If I had to choose just one it would be seeing the kids faces on Christmas morning, that’s always a winner.

  2. 2009 has been a year full of challenges. I am learning to let go and let God, even in the small things like catching up in my scrapbooking. Hopefully in 2010 I will continue to enjoy life instead of trying to contol it, and have lots more to scrap in the mean time.

Despite that, we’re trying to focus on the positive – I still have my job, our daughter is healthy, we still have our home. To be honest, we are all still really looking forward to a new year!

The one memory that I will hold most dear in 2010 is that we made it through together as a family during the challenges of MS, illnesses, and often heartache. We can look back and still hold a smile because we are stronger for going through it. Here’s wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year to you and yours..

Our freezer is stocked full and I love having company for dinner and being told, “mmmm this sauce is delicious! What brand do you use?” To which I can reply, “Thank you, it’s our very own!”

Fun, fun, and more fun. Here’s to wishing that 2010 will bring even more scrappiness! Happy New Year!

  83. This was the year I turned 40. I didn’t expect anything special; in fact, I told my husband: NO surprise party or anything like that. Just family. Please.
So he gathered my family together, and I thought: Good. I hope I get a printer, because we need a new one.
Imagine my surprise when I opened his gift bag. Inside was…a catalog…for a cruise line.
    WHAT??!!
He’d arranged for a 4-day cruise for just the 2 of us. It had been YEARS since just the two of us took a vacation together (my eldest is 10yo now, you see). And my mom and sis were going to watch out kids. So that, without a doubt, is my favorite memory of 2009. Well, that and the cruise itself. After all these years, my man can still surprise me. :)

Great LOs, ladies, thanks for sharing your inspiring pages with us! Happy 2010!!

  93. My favorite memory of 2009 is a trip that my husband and I took to Mackinaw. We often go to Frankenmuth where there is a sign that says how many miles to Mackinaw. My husband jokes, only 1000 miles to Mackinaw! So, we decided to keep going this time. It was a holiday weekend and we had no plans, including where to stay when we got there! We did find a room (although there were not many left!) We walked out to find some dinner. We stopped for a moment and looked at where we were and I think my husband kissed me. Then all of a sudden, fireworks started! It was like magic.

We had just come in from a late night out, his sisters headed upstairs to get ready for bed and he started running after them and stopped, turned back to me and as he hugged me tight he said “I love you mommy”. He stopped me in my tracks.

  152. 2009 was a roller-coaster year for me and my family, a lot of things going on, feelings and memories…

And my best memory was this past November, the day my sister graduated as an Engineer :) I’m so proud of her, she is my baby sister (I’m 4 years older) and I still remember the day she was born, when she was finally brought home and when I got to hold her for the first time…

Anyway, on her graduation day, we said bye at lunch since she needed to arrive earlier than us and we would meet up later. We arrived there, and as soon as the ceremony took place that I saw my baby sister (I still see her as a 2 year old with her spiky pony tails) wearing her graduation cap and gown, well… I started crying, a happy crying, I was so overwhelmed to finally see her as a grown up that I couldn’t avoid the tears… when I turned around my mom was standing behind me, thanking me for helping her be the big sister… (so that you know, when C was born, my mom told me very seriously “This is C, your little sister; from now on you are the big sister and that means that you have to keep being the good girl you are, because you will be her example, and she will copy you in everything you do. You have to take care of her, because once mommy and daddy are in heaven that you two are grown ups and have your own kids, the only thing that you will have left from us, is one another; she will be your best friend from now on, and remember, she already loves you.” I just smiled at my mom, for giving me the best present ever.

  173. 2009 was a fun, bittersweet year for me and my family. Not only were there calamities galore in the Philippines, which, thankfully we were spared, but it was also a year full of goodbyes and hellos.

We moved into our new home, our very own cozy little next, which is the highlight of the year. But in juxtaposition, although it is a good thing that my sister-in-law and the kids are finally reunited with my older brother in the US who’s in the Navy, we miss them dearly and life has definitely gotten a lot quieter around here.

It was sad to say goodbye to friends who’ve migrated and are now living in other countries and even painful to see long-lost classmates who only came home because their dad is sick with cancer.

It feels that at the start of 2010, there has to be lots and lots of healing first before the good things can start coming in.

But, as always, I am filled with hope and faith that God will find a way to make everything amazing.

Beats all the stuff I’d rather not remember such as some of the trials of moving, building, being states away from spouse/kids at times, and temporary living quarters in a VERY old but very loved house. Thankful for simple things that make me smile like the snoring cat by my side or the Xmas lights strung by the kids’ mirrors to light their rooms until I go to bed.

  204. One of my many fondest memories of 2009 was watching my two girls walk into Elementary school together, one off to Kindergarten and the other to 4th grade…hand in hand…no looking back. I shed a tear as I drove away, sad at how fast they are growing up but also so proud of what beautiful girls they have become.

  205. My favorite memories of this year were just the everyday play and chatter of my two girls together at home with me. I have never been a stay at home mom and due to job loss became one this year. It has been a rewarding experience, although not financially rewarding. I have loved connecting with my children on a new level.

  206. My favorite memory this year was actually being able to remember my little brother and not cry, but smile. We lost him 4 years ago in a car accident when he was 18, and every holiday and birthday has been filled with tears and sadness. This year had a different ring to it. Although we were still sad, we were able to smile some remembering the good times. The Turning Point, my best memory of 2009. THanks so much for the chance!

  209. My favorite memory from 09 was definitely my husband finding a new job after being unexpectedly laid off. A door was closed to us, but a window was definitely opened!
