Happy New Year! (and Free Font Friday)

I can’t believe the new year is already upon us. Where does the time go? If your life is anything like mine, then 2009 flew by before you could take in all that was going on. The year had its ups and downs—the expected and the unexpected. It was full of change—some of it good, some of it not so good; some of it by choice, some of it not by choice.
As I contemplated the past year, I decided my main goal for 2010 is to make more of life’s changes be determined by me. Not just changes in circumstances, but changes in me. Stampin’ Up! makes a stamp set entitled “Define Your Life.” I love this set, not just because it makes great scrapbook pages and cards (which it does), but because its title speaks to me as well. I, probably like most of you, feel I can use a little more definition in my life.
This year, I’m determining to define my life. To define what I want to be, where I want to go, and how I’m going to make that happen. To not just let life happen, but to make it happen.
It’s said that in order to achieve your goals, you have to write them down. I’m going to take a little spin on this theory and create a Define Your Life journal for myself, with a 6″ x 6″ page dedicated to each aspect I want to be, do, or learn over the next year. I’m not worried about creating every page right now. I’ll be adding to the journal as the year goes on. I’ll still be working on scrapbooking the events in my life, but I’m hoping that having these other types of pages will remind me to actively work toward making my life what I want it to be.
Maybe you’d like to spend more time with family,
travel more,
achieve something big,
work on a talent,

"How Does Our Summer Grow?" by Jing-Jing Nickel, as seen in the January 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes
or just delight in the little things this year.

"Delight in the Details" by Amanda Johnston, as seen in the January 2010 issue of Creating Keepsakes.
I’d love to hear from you about it. How do you keep motivated to make positive changes in your life, and how do you document those changes? Drop me a line in the comments section of this post, and let’s keep each other motivated to make 2010 the best year yet.
May this new year bring everything you hope and dream it will.
To help some of your dreams come true, two lucky winners will recieve a selection of Stampin’ Up! clear mount blocks, a stamp set, and either a package of patterned paper or a corner punch. Simply leave a comment on this post, and two lucky winners will be drawn on January 5th.
Happy New Year!

I love those layouts. I haven’t had a chance to read the January issue, it looks like a good one. I’m excited to see all that Stampin’ Up has to offer this year. The new mounting system is great.

I keep my perspective on life through my work as a radiation therapist – everyday I see people battling for thier lives. I am forever grateful for my health and the health of my loved ones. My prayer is that continues throughout the new year.

last year, i wrote my “goals” on a little piece of paper and stapled it into my planner. that way, i could look back all year long to see what i hoped to achieve. i did manage some, but others were out of reach still. i’m going to do the same this year, and I pray that God will help me to focus on the goals that are in line with his will.

I am an avid DayTimer user. I just switched to a new format for 2010 that will allow me to keep the whole year in one binder, thereby making it easier to keep closer tabs on my goals and successes throughout the year. I also have designated people to which I am accountable for goals-that helps to keep me focused.
Thanks for the chance to win some Stampin Up stuff-I love their stuff.

Happy New Year Lara!
Well, this is going to sound corny, there are two facts that define that (in me):
1) My parents taught me that not only I could always do anything I wanted (as long as I was aware of it and proposed myself to achieve it by setting my mind on it) but to always be the best on every little thing I do, that just a “ok” or “medium” achievement is not enough; they taught me that I have to dream for the stars and how I had to reach for them, by working hard on my goals, setting realistic goals but never allowing anything or anybody to tell me that I couldn’t do it, as the only person that can say so, is me (needless to say that I’ve gone far and beyond
).
2) I’m really close to my family (inmediate and extended) because of my heritage (latino), so, as long as I can make them happy and proud of the person I am, that makes me happy.
These 2 are the main facts that keep me going.
Regarding the goals, well, it’s funny because it’s a tradition in my home country, that on New Year’s Eve you write down your goals, and by the time it is 12:00 am, everybody starts eating 12 grapes, one by one reciting their goals for the new year. There is some people that keep those goals afterward in a small pouch hidden in their closet, or some others burn it. I have kept them in my journal, so that whenever I’m loosing my way (hey, nobody is perfect, and circumstances do try to drag you in) I can go back to my path by reading those goals and why I set them.
Comment by Patty AT — 01/01/2010 #
I would like to be more purposeful also in this year. I am retired and it is so easy to just let life happen instead of making your life happen the way you want it to. I would love to scrapbook more pages this year and keep my scrapbooking supplies more organized to accomplish that goal! Happy New Year and thanks for the opportunity to win this great prize!

What a great giveaway! I’ve been struggling with many health issues the past several years, at this point I can only do what I can to stay healthy, the disease has it’s own thing going on and wants to stop me at every step-so instead of worrying about losing weight, or exercising too much, I know I can only do my best each day–if my body says rest, then that’s what I need to do. I’m on a terribly restricted diet because of food allergy issues, so that I just need to stay away from things my body can’t tolerate, eat what I can and carry on–don’t stress the small stuff!

Great question, I really think it’s a personal process that everyone must go through. For me, I’m thinking of a personal album, or maybe some micro-scrapping that I can put in my own personal journal.
This year I’m trying to think about not over-committing myself. Do what I feel like, when I feel like. Certainly, I would like to get into better shape and have a few changes, but overall, I cannot complain.
Love the Jan 2010 issue. Just picked up my copy.
Thanks for the post!

I used to keep diaries, but now that I scrapbook, I keep track of my goals, achievements and even setbacks that way. Happy New Year

I try to remember that it is not all about me and try to be who God created me to be. I quite a lot of scriptures to myself!

I hope to “let go” more this year. I get too obsessed with small details, and then I’m not able to finish up projects in a timely fashion. This is true in my scrapping, as well as other areas of life…so I hope this is the time to stop worrying and start DOing!
Thanks for the chance to win! Best wishes to everyone in their goals this year!

This year I would like to answer this question everyday: What have I done for some one today? I feel that if I can answer with even the smallest of service, I will become a better mother, wife, friend, sister, neighbor, and daughter. Each day will be better.
Comment by Olivia — 01/01/2010 #
Anything that helps keep me scrapping must be good. Love the look of the Jan issue, haven’t got mine yet, hopefully soon.

I am picking one word for the year to concentrate on and use it to help me to achieve the year I want. My word for 2008 was “Learn” and for 2009, “Create”. This year it is “Enjoy”.
Comment by Ami Pilon — 01/01/2010 #
I’ve decided I am going to do one thing every day that makes me feel good about myself. I have a little pocket calendar I’m going to write them in. As time goes by I think it will be interesting to scrap/art journal the large changes doing this will make in my life.
Comment by Elizabeth Williams — 01/01/2010 #
What a great goal for 2010! I am standoff-ish about setting goals or making a resolution…most of the time they go by the waste-side. I am a Mother to 3 and most of the time, do not have the time I need, to do all of the things I would like to do, in even just a day….
I will have to think long and hard and maybe put a goal in WRITTING! Thank you so much and wishing you the very BEST in 2010!
Cheers,
~Tonya
Comment by ~Tonya — 01/02/2010 #
I usually write my goals in my journal. And when I read them them then I think what I have done today to reach it. It makes me feel somehow personal about it and do it at once. Sometimes I write that on a small piece of paper and then at the end of the day I read it and think about it. Every time before I make a goal for me I ask God what I would need to do.

Very cute heart stamps. love them. instead of a list of goals, my one goal word is PEACE for 2010 (thank you ali). this is so much meaning and says everything to me and wraps up my goals or resolutions in a nut shell. happy, healthy and scrappy New Year
Comment by Loriann — 01/02/2010 #
my goal: to finally do a “book of me” this year; my scrapping is so focused on the family, and kids, that I am rarely found in them. This year, I fix all that and create a book that will let my kids know who I am as a person, rather than as their mother – an important role, and one I love, but not all there is to me….

I’m not very good about documenting things in my own life. I love to document things about my kids, so I guess that includes me too. But, my goals and dreams don’t only revolve around my kids. I’d really like to start a journal so that in 5, 10 and even 40 years, I can look back and see where I’ve been and how I’ve changed.
Looks like a fun giveaway too!

For the past few years, I have been creating a journal for the year to document my goals and how I have (or haven’t) achieved them. It’s nice to have a a place to refer back to my thoughts and reasoning – sometimes it serves as a great motivator, and sometimes it makes me revise my goals.
Comment by DebL — 01/02/2010 #

Last year my theme of the year was thrive while survive, since there were a few hurdles in my year. This year I would like to get back to what I enjoy, beyond surviving. I’m jumping back into scrapbooking, getting out to enjoy nature and just enjoying life.
Comment by Linda W — 01/02/2010 #
2009 was a tough year with many personal struggles…In these struggles, I found out who I am. I resolve to scrap who I am this year. I started many things last year which didn’t get finished. So this year, I took the “Notes” notebook created at CKConvention (which I was afraid to use). I am using the tabs to divide up my life into sections with lists of things I want to do. As I complete them…I will date it. At the end of the year…the entire notebook will be my final page of my 2010 book. In years to come..I will know exactly what I accomplished in 2010!!! Another personally successful year!!
Comment by Ann Marie Bazeley — 01/02/2010 #
Last year I made a resolution to do more of what I love (like scrapbooking) and I’ve learned to say NO a lot more – like when asked to volunteer – I still do it, but I choose what I want to do. Good luck with your 2010 resolution and thanks for a great publication!

As a mother of three boys and a new little girl, this year was not about me at all. My goal in 2010 is to find time every 4-6 weeks to do something scrapbooking…anything! I also have taken a vow to myself to take pictures of all of my children, both individually and as a group each month. This is so that my annual “family pictures” calendar is quicker to do! I make this calendar for my mom, my mom-in-law, my sister and my grand-aunt. I would also like to schedule hubby time this year as well…sometimes (alot!) we forget the reason these kids have filled up our house! I hope to stay ahead of things, and not feel so overwhelmed each week!

To make change and stay motivated I stay organized and set goals. I write my aspirations down and reflect on them weekly, if not daily. I also ask my sister to keep me accountable. This has really helped me a lot!

My goal this year is to be less stressed so I started a blog where I can process my feelings for the day. The goal is to find at least one thing out of the day that makes me happy. The blog motivates me to let go of stress while simultaneously documenting my progress toward my goal for this year.
Comment by Ashleigh B. — 01/04/2010 #
My husband and my best friend keep me motivated and focused on my goals. I keep a journal where I jott down life experiences.
Comment by Beth Denny — 01/04/2010 #
I keep motivated by learning to “live in the moment”. If I think only about right now, this very minute, then I tend to stay on track of what I want to accomplish and by the end of the day I pick out one thing that made me smile that day and that’s my last thought before drifting off to sleep.
Comment by Lillian Child — 01/04/2010 #
Love the do more with less ideas! I am planning on documenting my goals this year, think I will try a 6 x 6 album!
Comment by karen — 01/04/2010 #
I totally agree that you have to write your goals down to help motivate yourself. I love the idea of a “goal” journal or mini album! I’m adding that to my January to do list!
I personally want to submit more projects for publication. I’d love to be published this year!
Comment by heather garl — 01/04/2010 #
Stampin’ Up! is also one of my favorites for stamps. I really like the concept of creating a 6×6 album of things I want to accomplish. Puts a way better spin on just writing things in a notebook or journal. I may have to follow in your footsteps. This may inspire me to actually complete the things on my list. Thanks!!!
