Hi everyone! I’m Nicole Harper and I have a quick holiday technique for you to create easy photo frame ornaments using Studio Calico Wood Veneer!
To start, grab some supplies and tidbits to pair up with your frames.
And don’t forget a few favorite old photos.
For this frame, I misted a bit of ink on the background paper and left the frame as it is packaged. . .I love how the wood looks! I punched some border strips from leftover paper I couldn’t bear to throw away and placed them along the right side. Tissue paper flowers are perfect for projects like this, and I used one to spruce up the bottom corner.
For the next step, first I “whitewashed” the star frame with Mister Huey mist in Classic White. . .rubbing off most of the ink while it was still wet. This makes the veneer appear “stained.” I punched lots of little circles and just started sticking them to some leftover cardstock. . .every now and then laying the frame over the “base” to see how far I needed to go to fill in the star. Once I had made it large enough, I peeled the backing off the frame and adhered it to my cardstock. I punched a circle base, trimming away the excess. Just before that, I added some yellow twine around a few of the sides. I added a sparkly ribbon hanger to the back and it was ready to go!!
This last ornament was FUN. I LOVE both the Studio Calico Doily Stamp Set and the American Crafts Zing Embossing Powders. . .so I am happy to report that after experimenting, you can EMBOSS right onto the WOOD!! For the teal border around the outside, I first placed a strip of the American Crafts Mix Tape on some white cardstock and then used a punch to make my border.
