15 Years of Creating Keepsakes at CHA

A lot has changed in 15 years.

That’s when Creating Keepsakes magazine began—in 1996. Since then, we’ve published tens of thousands of your layouts, and since then, dozens of editors and graphic designers have lovingly coordinated, written, and designed issues of the magazine.

We’ve seen a lot of changes in both Creating Keepsakes magazine and in scrapbooking since 1996, and as we gathered with readers, Dream Team members, retailers, colleagues, and manufacturers to celebrate this milestone for Creating Keepsakes at the Craft Hobby Association trade show in Los Angeles yesterday, it was fun to reflect on this and to see how many friends we’ve made along the way.

We would never had made it this far without you!

Amidst the busy trade show floor and seeing fun new products (which we’ve been sharing on Facebook all weekend), we gathered for a lot of cake, a lot of giveaways, and a ton of hugs to celebrate the beginning of our 15th year.

We wish you could have all been with us! But this is the first of many birthday festivities this year. We’re celebrating in each issue of the magazine, at Club CK, for National Scrapbooking Day, and with a special anniversary edition later this year. In fact, let’s continue the celebration right now here on the blog. Leave a comment below to let us know when you first started reading Creating Keepsakes. We’ll choose 5 lucky winners at random to win a birthday goody bag worth of scrapbooking supplies by February 7.

Thank you all for your support over the years and your continued support now. We truly couldn’t have done this without you, and we’re so grateful for your support!

  1. My first issue was in 2003 while stationed at Ramstein Germany. After many years of nagging my husband he finally got me a subscription for my birthday. You guys always do a great job! Thank you and Happy birthday!

Congratulations! My 4 year old and I fight over who gets to look at it each month! Here’s to 15+ more years of inspiration.

  3. Bernie says:

Congratulation! Not sure how long it’s been, 10 or more years. My girl friend and I share a subscription. She has more space then I do so she has the collection but I have a notebook listing issues with ideas I especially like, when ever I need inspiration I head next door with my notebook.
    Blessings Bernie

Think it was 1999. My first grandchild was born, and I needed help recording all the memories. Thanks, Creative Keepsakes, and happy birthday!!!

  6. Katie says:

January 2011! My friend just introduced me a couple of weeks ago, and already I am hooked! I’ve taken out a subscription, and can’t wait for my first issue to reach the UK. I’ve just started scrapbooking in earnest this year, after having been collecting the “stuff” for years, and am currently working on my wedding scrapbook since our marriage in Noember 2010. CK is a great inspiration for how to lay out my pages so they look balanced and not too cluttered!
Looking forward to lots more fun. Happy Birthday!!

I started reading CK in 2000, following the birth of my first son. I’m still reading it and scrapping for both my boys today. I love it and they love looking at their scrapbooks.

Happy Birthday! I read my first issue in 1998. My subscription began a few years after that–around 2001 or 2002. Amazing how much scrapping has changed since then, yet stayed the same. So awesome to think of all of the memories preserved by this wonderful hobby.

  9. Steffanie S says:

Did someone say goodie bags? I love goodie bags! Happy birthday, CK! So glad you are still here to inspire me in ways I never imagined. My journey with you began probably around 2003 or so. I became a subscriber in April 2006 and still have my first issue! Love them all and can’t seem to part with any. Storage may become an issue at some point, though… Thanks, CK!

15 years and you are just a teenager. I hope you continue to grow to be a senior citizen like me… Kidding aside, I found one of your old issues on sale at Archivers a couple of years ago and got hooked. I love the inspirations I get from reading your magazine from cover to cover. Even your ads for products have been inspirational. Thank you for celebrating 15 years.

Congrats on 15 years! I only began scrapbooking and subscribing about 2 years ago, but from the very first issue I read, I knew your magazine was head and shoulders above any other I had tried. I save every issue and back issue I can get my hands on and pour over every single page many times. Keep up the good work!
