Scrapbook Sentiments Using Song Lyrics

Happy Friday, my dear CK blog readers. Mou Saha here. I’m a contributing writer for Creating Keepsakes magazine  and happy to be a guest blogger for the day.

Have you had a chance to check out the February 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine yet? If you have, I’m sure you have noticed Dorathy Gilchrist’s article, “Scrapbook Life’s Love Songs”. This article explores the many sentiments that song lyrics can represent beautifully in just the right words.

For example, my layout, “Waitin’ on a Woman…” is about my son getting really bored whenever he has to wait for his sister and me to get ready to go out or to decide on which sweater to buy or any such circumstances. Brad Paisley’s love song seemed to fit the situation really well in documenting a rather humorous everyday scenario in our family.

Song lyrics can relate to more than people in our lives, they can also relate to other loves, such as a hobby or a passion. Check out Layle Koncar’s layout, “Love to Love You, Baby”. She picked part of the song that suited her idea the most and created her title with it.

People, hobbies…how about pets? I found the perfect song to scrapbook our new puppy, Brave, and the love we feel for him. The lyrics, “Wise men say only fools rush in,” from Elvis Presley’s song, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”  was so appropriate for us finding Brave quite by chance and then just falling in love with him and his irresistible puppy ways without a thought. While I wrote most of the lyrics on the layout, I used alphabet stickers to highlight part of it to create the title, “Only Fools Rush In”.

Supplies: Patterned paper: Anna Griffin (Fifi & Fido Collection); Alphabet thickers: American Crafts (Delight-black, foam); Embellishments: “Must be Love” 3D stickers; Pen: Faber-Castell DMC (PITT Artist’s pen, black, fine); Adhesive: Scotch 3M (Adhesive Dot Roller); Song: “Wise Men Say”; Writers: George D. Weiss, Luigi Creatore and Hugo Peretti; Artist: Elvis Presley

What are some songs lyrics that you’ve used or that you are planning to use on a layout?  Share them with us by leaving a comment on this blog.

Have a creative weekend!

I really love that article! Right away I created a layout about my kids love for our new Rock Band video game. I posted my layout to the Club CK gallery http://clubcreatingkeepsakes.com/media/p/462007.aspx. And, I’ve got more lyric layouts in the works! Thanks for the inspiration.

I did the Lyrics to My Life workshops last year at CKC and used Living After Midnight by Judas Priest, I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash, We Close Our Eyes by Oingo Boingo, Whenever I See Your Smiling Face by James Taylor, You Are My Sunshine (folk song), California Dreamin by the Mamas and the Papas, Melt with You by Modern English. All were central songs at different points in my life and each one got its own layout that featured a photo and the lyrics.

I’ve also recently done a layout with Orbital by Josh Ritter, and another with I Hope You Dance by Leann Rimes (?).

I’m very new to scrapbooking. I love this idea of using song lyrics. So many highlights in my life have a tune to match. Can’t wait to use it. Thank you for the idea.

I love this idea. I once created a layout about sledding with friends called “Let the Good Times Roll” by the Cars. I love the Beatles, so one day I hope to create an album dedicated to their songs. There are so many to choose from!

I created a layout a few years ago entitled “So Happy Together” by The Turtles. Here’s a link to my layout over at Scrapbook.com: http://www.scrapbook.com/galleries/233209/view/1383861/-1.html

It was about my son & his girlfriend (now his fiance). More about their story is in the description under the photo.

    Thanks for looking :-)
