Hello CK friends! I’m so happy to be back on the Creating Keepsakes Editors’ Blog today. I’m here to share a couple of ideas from my “Some Kind of Wonderful” layout that was featured in the February 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine.

Supplies: Cardstock: Bazill Basics Paper; Patterned paper: Pink Paislee; Stickers: American Crafts, Making Memories and Paink Paislee; Chipboard: American Crafts and Jenni Bowlin Studio; Rhinestones: Bazzill Basics Paper and Kaisercraft; Doily: Little Yellow Bicycle; Flowers; Bazzill Basics Paper and Bella Blvd; Marker and rub-ons: American Crafts; Fonts: FontleroyBrown and Josefin Sans Std; Adhesive: American Crafts, Glue Dots Internatinal, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, and Tombow; Other: Thread.
The Blooms a Bella from Bella Blvd are some of my favorite flowers right now, and I used them on my layout pictured above. One of the reasons they’re a favorite is because each flower has six layers! These layers can be taken apart, allowing you to easily come up with your own unique flowers. I’ll walk you through this fun and easy technique.

Select two or three blooms in different colors. Remove the brads from the flower centers and set aside to use on another project.

The flowers are held together with a few stitches of floss. Snip the floss and remove it from the flowers.

Pull the blooms apart and re-combine the single flowers to create your own colorful bloom.

Staple flowers together.

Top your new bloom with a button, brad, chipboard, sticker, gem – whatever you’d like!

Another fun and easy technique is using a paper doily to create flags for a banner. Rather than creating a banner that drapes across my page I used a few flags in a couple places to border the bottom edge of my larger photos. Here’s how to get the look for your next layout.
Cut a doily into eight equal pieces. Use a ruler and craft knife or fold doily in half three times to create lines that you can easily cut along with scissors.

Add doily flags to your page with adhesive or stitching.

I hope you’ve enjoyed learning these techniques and will give them a try!
Bella Blvd has generously offered to give away the Blooms a Bella pictured below to two lucky CK blog readers! Simply leave a comment on this post about which of these techniques you are going to try! Do so by March 18 for your chance to win. Be sure to come back and check the Giveaways tab to see if you’ve won!

The flowers are certainly cute but I think cutting apart the doily is my fave. I have some colored doillies that I’m going to use to make banners!
I LOVE the doily technique!! I will be using that ASAP. Thanks so much for the idea!
Both of these ideas were awesome! I love the flowers – looks like fabric…Also love the banner idea. I have thought about banners before but they seemed so complicated to do. This is definitely simple but classy.
I have never seen those blooms before, but I’m going to be on the lookout for them now. And the doily idea is awesome. I marked your layout in my copy of CK I liked it so much!
