An Insider’s Look: CK’s May/June 2011 Issue

Whether you’re looking to scrapbook parents, grandparents, graduates, spring, or everyday pages, the May/June 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine has an idea (or a hundred!) to inspire you. On sale today, this issue has more than 200 ideas, techniques, tips, and layouts for you to use to make your memories shine. Here are some tidbits about the issue to give you an insider’s look!

Insider info #1: An Article Idea from Our Readers

On page 97, you’ll find tricks to capture the moments in between the poses—in other words, capturing candid shots. Where did we get the idea for this article? From our Facebook fans! When we asked them what their challenges are in getting a good photo, “capturing good candid shots” was  one of the answers that came up most. So we dedicated this “Photo Tricks” column to that topic.

Our Facebook page isn’t the only place we get ideas from readers. On page 39, you’ll find a reader survey to give us your feedback about what you like or would like to see more of in Creating Keepsakes magazine. Let us know what you think for a chance to win oodles of letters for your scrapbooks. It’ll help make sure the articles in the magazine are the ones you want to see.

Insider info #2: New Teen Talent

We found some incredibly talented scrapbookers aged 13-18 in our first-ever Teen Talent contest last year, and Amy Hoang was one of the finalists who made the cut. Her Spring Fun layout is on page 37. This was the first time we asked one of our Teen Talent finalists to create a layout for publication—but it wasn’t the last. You’ll see more layouts from this rising generation of talented scrappers in the July/August issue, including one from winner Jordan Hebl. If you know any teen scrapbookers, tell them to look for this issue, on sale in June, because we’ll announce the second Teen Talent contest then!

Insider info #3: The Friend of the Boy Who Lived

Isn’t the boy on the cover of the magazine adorable? We thought he looked just like a young Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter series, so we’ve been affectionately referring to him as “Ronnie”. Thanks to the talented Mandy Douglass for a fabulous cover layout and our talented art director, Erin Bayless, for an eye-catching cover design!

We want to thank you for reading CK! We couldn’t make this magazine without your input and support. We also couldn’t make the magazine without our advertisers, whose support pays for the paper, printing, and so much more for each issue. A special thanks to our advertisers in this issue: Advantus, Anna Griffin, BasicGrey, Bazzill Basics Paper, BoBunny Press, Doodlebug Design, Edge Craft, Elmer’s, Faber-Castell, Fancy Pants Designs, Karen Foster Design, Leisure Arts, Making Memories, Marvy Uchida, Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker, Peachy Cheap, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Scrapbook Expo, Scrapper Wrappers, Sizzix, Sport Solution, Tamron USA, The Digital Scrapbook Teacher, The Original Scrapbox, Two Peas in a Bucket, all those in the Services Directory on page 103.

Don’t forget to enter to win over $2400 in prizes with a contest by Elmer’s too. And don’t forget to enter the Scavenger Hunt contest on page 105 for a chance to win $1200 in scrap supplies.

We hope you enjoy the ideas in this issue!

I just found the latest issue of CK in my mailbox! I do love the magazine, but I want to say that I am very disappointed to find that for the second issue in a row, there is not a section on organizing your space. Or if there is, I seem to be missing it. That is the section that I always read first. Please bring it back. I am forever looking for good ways to organize both at home and on the go for my scrapbook nights and weekends. Thanks for such a great magazine!

  4. Wow this issues get better and better, I’m gonna subscribe first thing tomorrow, Thanks Jennafer
