National Scrapbooking Week: Scrapping With Free Fonts

Hi there my CK Blog buddies, Mou Saha here as today’s guest blogger.

Are you planning on cropping the day away tomorrow?  Do you have any special tricks and techniques you want to try out this National Scrapbooking Day? In honor of this special day, I have tried doing something scrapbooking-related that I have NEVER done before!  This week, I have made my first ever digital scrapbook page. Unlike many of you, I have no digital supplies. But I do have a photo editing software with a few functions and a whole bunch of free fonts from CK’s Free Font Friday to choose from.

Fonts have personalities and they are a great way to enhance the theme of any page. For example, CK Wood House seems to me like a font that is bold and yet shows wear and tear. That’s the font I chose for my title and journaling in my digital page venture.

Supplies: Photo editing software: Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 (Adobe Systems); Font: CK Wood House (Creating Keepsakes)

Once I was satisfied with the photo placement on my page, I clicked on the Text function. I picked a brown from the font color palette and a size that would allow the journaling to fit and be read easily.

I rotated my page 90 degrees left and added the title vertically along the right side of the photo and journaling. I chose different colors, bigger font size, bold and strikethrough functions.

After flattening the image, I rotated it back to original and added the names, date and place in the same font in orange under the photo.

At this point all I needed was some sort of an embellishment. So I added a circle surrounded by a few triangles to create a primitive looking sun. Remember, I’m not regularly a digi scrapper?

In this layout, I used one font in various colors, sizes and weights to create a cohesive yet simple and fun look. The bold yet worn out look seemed perfect for my page about an exhausting day spent at the ancient archaeological ruins.

To make this National Scrapbooking Week celebration extra special, we’re giving you a chance to win one of two subscriptions to Creating Keepsakes magazine. Just leave a comment for your chance to win! And remember to stop by the CK Store for free shipping on orders of $50 and a sale on National Scrapbooking Day, May 7, featuring new product!

Happy scrapping!

When I find myself stuck on a page or worried that I am using too many embellishments I pull most of the items off and use different fonts for the visual intrest. I usually like those layouts the best…maybe I need to start my designs with fonts.
