Hi, I am Katrina Hunt and I am the design team leader for Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker.
Do you see themed scrapbook collections and are not quite sure what you would do with them if you bought them? This is a problem for me, especially since I am a scrapbooker that does not have kids. Here’s my tip: Think outside the collection. I have to do this a lot with my scrapbooking and it’s fun once you get in the habit of it.
My example layouts today show how you can create non-school layouts with school themed collections. I created layouts around some of the embellishments, instead of the entire collection.
My first layout is about a Nook color e-reader. Perfect subject for school paper with a book theme!
My second layout I created with a play on the word “measure” and the ruler die-cut.
So challenge yourself to create something out of collections that you wouldn’t usually use. You may just make your supplies go farther too!
And one lucky reader will win the collection kit that I used, School is Cool by Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker, plus the full collection set from Unity Stamp Co.
Just leave a comment on this post letting us know what ideas you have for scrapbooking with school themed collections.
Thank you, Creating Keepsakes, for letting me guest blog today!
Katrina Hunt

I would use it for our Scrapbooking/Book Club, and for my niece’s first day of school. Thank you.
Gorgeous layouts (especially love the banner on the first layout) made from bright, fun papers! Very enjoyable blog post…keep up the good work!
great projects Katrina. loving what you did with the NS line. i would use it to document my summer reading collection.
Love the projects. I like to make teacher appreciation goodies, like book marks.
I would like to make a decorated box for baked goods for a teacher.
I love giving teachers gifts—I would like to give a box of hand made cards to the teacher so she can send thank you notes for gifts given to her throughout the year.
love the pages also love the cobranding with unity…
so cute! and what a great idea about the nook! i might have to do something like that for my nook…
reading with my little ones:)
I can’t think of anything original so I would use them for school layouts of me growing up, my kids and now my grandchildren.
I think there are lots of uses for school themed paper as I love books dearly and could do several layouts about them.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these! Great work Katrina as always! Loved seeing you on the CK blog!
The obvious school LO is a must.. but I also like to celebrate my hobbies (scrapbooking, sewing, reading) and the various clubs, lessons and crop nights I attend – this lovely kit could work for so many LO that focus on me for a change!
Apples are a popular school icon and they are great for scrapping trips to the orchard!
I was thinking I could scrapbook photos of my granddaughters with their American Girl books.
Woohoo Katrina! Great post and great layout!
Love both your layouts. Thanks for the ideas. I think you could also use some traditionally school related embellishments for travel – backpacks for hiking/camping, school bus for a bus tour around a city or to a destination, apple for an apple picking outing.
these are both great!!! my little just started first grade- so I’m happy to use them in the traditional way- but love the way you’ve used them ‘outside the box’!
Since my youngest granddaughter, Lilyana, starts 1st grade today, I’ll be doing lots of layouts of her school year. In fact, I’ll be making her an album for each grade…so this would be wonderful to win!!!
Great layout! Thanks for sharing the inspiration.
Yay Kat! You always amaze me with your out of the box designs! Great to see you here!
i have a letter friend oversea maybe make a layout about her letters i get.
great use of school supplies to make other layouts…..i have used school paper to make a layout for my book club and all the books we have read over the year and a running layout for my first 5k.
Great products, great layouts & great giveaway!
I really like the idea of using a theme like school, but using it in a non-traditional way. Often times I get themed packs of scrapbooking materials, and don’t use all of them in one setting. I like that I have other options I can use them for. The play on words with “Measure” was really cute.
I do this a lot with different collections because I don’t have kids. You could make a layout about something you learned or discovered
What cute paper. I still have kids in school, but when I saw the inchworm I pictured a cute little card in my head that reads: “You’ve wormed your way into my heart!”
Great creations
LOVE THEM!!
I have 3 daughters who now between them have 5 children so I will be doing a lot of back-to-school layouts. I could really use more paper packs as I have very little left.
I am attracted to the Hooray for School paper for a layout titled “A Banner Day” highlighting special experiences of a specific day. I like the graph paper for a layout graphing specific experiences by how successful, fun, etc. they were.
I have been wanting to scrap about my teaching experience–I LOVE LOVE LOVE teaching, grading papers, and making lessons fun. I used to call my classroom Camp O’Gwynn–LOVED it!!!
And I love that Katrina is your Guest today!!! LOVE her:)
cute projects! I never thought to take pictures of my Nook. I would use the papers for my preschoolers pictures and that little “smile, first day of school” camera stamp by Unity is the cutest!
I have four girls in my home, so I do have lots of school layouts…but if you have crayons, rulers, scissors you could use them for a layout about a crafty crop or art project.
I love your layouts Katrina! I have the same problem- no kids, but I love collections that are made for kid projects! Great way to show how to use them
I have many photos from my school days to scrap!
My favorite back to school tradition as a child was the shopping: new bookbag, new notebooks and new clothes. Love the products and the projects spotlighted!
Those bright colors would look great on a party themed page.
Love these bright colored papers and I think it would be great for any page about learning, all my children are grown but we have grandchildren this would be perfect for! We have a library and have taught the love for reading to our children and their children, this paper and embellishments would be perfect for that! Thanks for a chance to win it… I would so love to use it for my grandchildren and their love for all things learning!
Woo Hoo! Love the school line! I have two little girls in school and 2 grand babes in school so I could make some awesome layouts with this line! Thanks for the chance to win!!!!
I am REALLY lovin’ these ideas and product lines!
My DGDs are in 2nd grade and Junior year! I will make the annual First Day of School LOs and use these great creative ideas!!! Thank you for this opportunity!!!
Thank you cards for teachers
Cards work great using school themed products. Also, the colors are usually primary colors, so creating birthday themed layouts always work good too!
My dd just started school this year but I’m 2 years behind, so I would love to use this collection to scarp her as a toddler and her love of books at such a young age. Thanks for the chance to win!
How about a title like, Your a class act!
Love you doggie layout! I saved that one for my scraplift file.
I too do not have children and have a hard time using school-themed products and lines! Thanks for the inspiration!
You could to a page with a ruler on it with “nothing measures up to you!”. Or a glue bottle with “stuck on you” for the title. Or crayons on a page with “You color my world”.
I love school themed papers. Still have plenty of School pages to do. I think I would use several of these pages for my brand new grandson. The rulers could be used for growth. We read to him all the time. I also want to make him an ABC book. I would also use several of the ideas listed above! Thanks to all for that and thanks for the chance to win.
I would use school theme supplies for the obvious use of my son at school, but I also like the idea of using them for pics of the adults in the house at work, reading, or studying.
I constantly use the Internet for research and learning. I will hear about something or someone and want to learn more about it..The Web has become new encyclopedia for us all. I could SB how it has become my 24/7 library & what topics I routinely research.
Thanks for yourInteresting help
