Three Tips For Speedy Sketch Scrapbooking

As we enter the holiday season, time is precious for all of us. The time we do find for scrapbooking is valuable and not to be wasted. On Club CK there are great member hosted scrapbooking challenges that will keep you at your creative peak.  For instance, the ISSUE challenge this week is to use a sketch. Using sketches when you are short on time is a great way to be productive and creative.  Sketches can also take the pressure off of starting a layout from scratch because having  a framework brings a confidence.

First choose your sketch. The Creating Keepsakes website is a great place to find a ton of free sketches. There are two ways I find most successful in choosing a sketch.  You can find a sketch that will fit with the elements you want to scrapbook (photos, embellishments, journaling, etc.), or (it can be faster sometimes) pick a sketch and use elements that fit the sketch.

Second, take the work out of your layout stick with one manufacturer or use a kit.  Using sketches helps bolster creativity and increase productivity, and sticking to one line helps to keep your layout focused and well-coordinated.

Finally, be flexible.  Sketches are not set in stone.  They are a leaping off point–a way to get you into your creative tide.  Allow yourself to stray from the sketch if inspiration hits. Turn it, twist it and make it your own!

For example, the circular element in this sketch designed by Club CK member Ashley Horton goes completely around the page and the vertical and horizontal lines intersect at in the direct middle; however,  I used two photos and adjusted the layout to fit my needs.
