NSD Countdown/Craft Room: How Other Hobbies Can Inspire Your Scrapbooking

Greetings, scrapbookers! This week we’ve been celebrating the countdown to National Scrapbooking Day 2012 (that’s today!) with the theme “scrapbooking around the house.” Each day we’ve hosted a variety of activities to get your scrap on, including tips, challenges, and prizes GALORE on both the Creating Keepsakes and Club CK blogs. Today we’ll continue the festivities in both places, and we’ve also teamed up with Big Picture Classes to bring you a FREE 12-hour Creative Crop.

As we scrapbook around the house, today we’re visiting everyone’s favorite: the CRAFT ROOM. Let’s see how  CK Dream Team member Piradee Talvanna approaches it.

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!

Hi everyone, I hope you’ve been following us the past few days as we get ready for National Scrapbooking Day 2012!. Today, I wanted to share some ideas on how your scrapbook layouts and projects don’t always have to be created using just scrapbooking products.

With the array of craft-related hobbies available, I’m sure most of us at one point in time have tried (or are still addicted to **wink**) one of them or another. I remember my cross-stitching phase, where pretty much everywhere I went, I always had my supplies with me, and couldn’t resist a little bit of stitching.  Thinking about it now, how fun would it be if I cross-stitched the title of my layout or certain elements? Some other fun ideas would be to knit your own embellishments or paint/create your own pattern paper design.

Lately, wherever I travel I’m constantly searching for fabric stores to see if there’s anything that I could add to a quilt I’ve been making. On my recent trip to New Zealand, I found this cute little store hidden away in the corner that had an amazing selection of fabrics.  Needless to say, I walked out with quite a bundle, and here’s one of my favorite design/color combinations:

I wanted to somehow include these fabrics in a layout, and, inspired by patchwork designs, I went about creating a grid layout with bits of fabric here and there. I also used the gorgeous new collection from Pink Paislee London Market, which had the perfect shade of pink.

Celebrate Today by Piradee Talvanna.

In keeping with the patchwork theme, I embellished my layout with sewing-related items, like buttons and thread.

I would love to see how you incorporate your other hobbies into your own scrapbooking!

Thanks for stopping by,
