Hello! Aly Dosdall here from Big Picture Classes. For my first guest blog post here at Creating Keepsakes, I’d like to share a fun way to include additional photos on your scrapbook layout using a divided page protector fold-out panel.
Sometimes when I need to include a few extra photos or bits of memorabilia in my 12″ x 12″ albums, I trim down a divided page protector and insert it in between 12″ x 12″ pages.

Here, I trimmed a 12″ x 12″ divided page protector with 4″ x 4″ pockets to 4″ x 12″. Want to see what I did with the leftover 8″ x 12″ section? Take a look:

Happiness Is by Aly Dosdall. Supplies: Cardstock, patterned paper, brad, chipboard, eyelet, eyelet setter, journaling cards, stickers, and twine: We R Memory Keepers; Stickers: Jillibean Soup; Pen: Newell Rubbermaid; Punch and adhesive: Creative Memories.

I trimmed the leftover section to exactly 12″ tall so that when I attached it to my layout, it could easily fit it into a regular page protector inside my album. After I added my photos, journaling cards, and embellishments, I secured the trimmed sides with washi tape to keep my items from falling out. I then added washi tape to the remaining sides to create a balanced border around my page protector panel.

Before I adhered anything to my layout, I taped the divided page protector panel to my cardstock background on the front and back. The washi tape allows the panel the flexibility to fold over when stored in my album. It’s a fun, interactive, and easy way to include extra photos on your layouts without having to create a second page.
I hope this scrapbooking technique gives you some ideas for adding more pictures or memorabilia to your next page!

Congratulations to our winner!
Mel H: I’m still overwhelmed with photos, since I inherited thousands of them after my mom’s recent passing. I’m so thrilled to have them, but I don’t really know where to start with them!

I am overwhelmed every year around Halloween when I want to scrapbook those Halloween photos of the kids. I take so many photos, of them in costume, at parties, trick or treating, that even though I only include the good ones, I still end up with a lot for just a few layouts. This class sounds perfect for this annual problem!
I think I’ve been overwhelmed by photos since I started having kids….it’s not my fault they are so cute! Seriously though, I’ve been eyeing this class for a while, I could definitely use all the help I can get in the picture reduction department.
Fun ideas! Not sure I understood the second one correctly, though – won’t most of the layout be covered up by the divided page protector if you put them both in the same 12×12 page protector?
I’m still overwhelmed with all the photos from our trip to Sweden last summer…
Overwhelmed every month with pictures of my first two grandchildren. I did way too many layouts (and books) when the first one was born. And have been trying to cut back while not short changing the second grandchild. Trying to narrow the pictures down to just enough to fit on 2 12×12 each month is difficult.
Also overwhelmed when we take a cruise. So many pictures. Too many. We will be going on a 28 day cruise next year and I can’t begin to imagine how many photos I alone will take, let alone the photos that will be shared with friends and family on the same trip.
How about right now! Two major beach vacations yet to be scrapped and it is all beginning to look the same to me… yet I can’t leave out some of these pictures! I really would love a seat in this class… thanks for a chance!
I always take so many pictures of any trips or vacations we take! I have used the photo pages with smaller sizes to get more photos in a section, but I haven’t ever added pages like you did in this article. I’ll have to try it. Love the washi tape use!

I am overwhelmed with how many photos I’ve taken of my boys in their short 4 yrs/1.5 yrs of life – I can’t stop taking pictures of them but trying to incorporate them all into their scrapbooks is a huge task to tackle! Thanks for the fabulous ideas!!
Would love to win a spot in this class. I am always looking for ways to add more photos. I have been doing similar things with divided sheet protectors for years. It is a great way to show all your photos, but only scrap a few for one or two layouts!
Great idea!
Love the additional photos on your spread. Definitely overwhelmed with 2800+ of our summer trip to Europe. So many great stories to tell along with great pics….where to start is a challenge and I desperately want to get it done!
I always seem to be stuck when trying to scrapbook vacation photos!
I tend to scrap events but prefer to keep my scrapping down to 2pg spreads. There have been some events that I’ve wanted to scrap up to 30 photos for- that’s tight for a 2pg layout.
My mother in law passed away last year at 54. She was the family photographer, so when we unpacked her apartment contents, literally thousands of photos (in magnetic albums, 4-up albums, loose stacks, slides, negatives, 8×10 vintage prints from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, antique baby portraits, hilarious beach vacations in the ’70s and ’80s, artsy prints from college developing classes – it’s endless) were put in my scrap room. Now I have her whole life in my keeping, and I would like to do something with these photos, especially those of my husband (only child!) since having our own 4 kids makes me better understand her trials as a young mother. Overwhelmed doesn’t quite cover how I feel, since there is also some pressure to document the family stories before her elderly parents pass away. This is a great opportunity to connect with her, even though she is gone, if I can just put together a plan. I’ll be in your class … but if I could be there for free, I’d be so grateful!! Thanks!

A time? I’m still overwhelmed, I went on a cruise to Alaska 2 years ago, have photos printed, title ideas etc–have yet to get it together!
When we went to Disney last December, I literally took 1700 pictures!! Let’s just say sorting through them is overwhelming…I can’t even comprehend scrapping them!! Whew!!
Great technique. I love the idea of this class, because I always have lot’s of photos of events and don’t want to have to make so many pages for each event. Thanks for a chance to win.
Aly, this is an awesome tip!!! Thanks for sharing because I am definitely going to be doing this!
I constantly feel overwhelmed by too many photos! To the point of avoiding scrapbooking them altogether. I think I need an intervention!!!!
right now! i’m so far behind on my project life for this year i don’t even know where to start…
My 13 year old son plays tennis competitively and I am with the camera for most of his tournaments (say 15 a year). In order to get decent action shots, I take a ton of photos. It takes some time to whittle this down, but I am still overwhelmed by the number of photos. He wants me to scrapbook each individual tournament and it is hard to think of how to incorporate all the photos into a layout. This course looks right up my alley!
What great ideas! I feel like I am constantly overwhelmed with photos, and I am always looking for ways to add more photos from one event to my pages. I just don’t have time to “scrapbook” every photo, and need to get the albums completed!
It’s been awhile since I’ve been overwhelmed with my own photos for scrapbooking (although I’m never up to date), however I’m currently doing my brothers wedding album and talk about overwhelmed. This is my second brother to get married and I felt just as crazy with the first ones book. Thank goodness they are my only two siblings. Here I get lucky enough to get a whole ton of pictures and to organize them is one thing but getting them all scrapped in a timely fashion is another. Trying to find ways to scrap multiple pictures in one layout is always a challenge, but expecially when its for somebody else and I don’t want to leave anything out.
I’m overwhelmed on 2 fronts with photos. First, a few years back I thought it would be a great idea and gift to scrap my friend’s family blog. It has been both of those but I am SO behind. Second, I’m making a scrapbook, well, it might fit into 4, about my friend’s daughter who survived being hit by an SUV. It is a testimony of God in her life. Lots of photos from her time in the hospital and all the stories that were a part of that. So yes, I need your class. And some chocolate.
Almost every event I have I am overwhelmed with photos. I take way too many pictures and I have a hard time not using them. For my last vacation I took over 400 pictures in 2 days. Try narrowing that down to one or even a couple of pages!
Super cool! I was doing a layout of our home remodel and had more pics than I knew what to do with. I did something similar to this! I attached a 6.5 x12 piece of paper to the center of my layout by scoring the paper at .5 and running adhesive down the edge on the back side. I attached it and used the sew along down the edge for added interest. It created an additiona page within the page. Then I scrapped my page with the addition closed. Then I opened it to add additional pictures on the back. My husband thought that it was pretty cool!
I have a ton of photos from when my son was a baby that I have in a box just waiting for ideas like this! Thanks!!
I get overwhelmed when I take too many photos on vacation. I want to include everything, but then I too much to scrapbook. I love the idea for extra photos. Thank you so much for the idea. Take care.
What a clever idea! Thanks for the great tips!
