An Insider’s Look: Mixed Media Scrapbooking

One of the joys of scrapbooking is combining various papers, embellishments, photos, and words in sometimes surprising ways to craft delightful works of art. By adding a little of this and a little more of that, we scrapbookers indulge in the kind of playful creation we enjoyed as children.

Mixed Media Scrapbooking, a special issue from Creating Keepsakes magazine

Mixed Media Scrapbooking, a new special issue from Creating Keepsakes magazine, encourages this spirit of childlike creative fun. Its 132 pages brim with useful how-tos and

I didn’t think of it as a medium, but I guess I use glossy accents, stickles, glitter, ink or paint on every single thing I do. Maybe I can think of myself as a trendy mixed media artist already!! I love all your special publications, so I know it’s a winner already!

  8. So many great ideas in this special issue. I am usually most comfortable with watercolours and paint but I am going to get braver and start trying more techniques. So many great things to see on the blog hop and so much inspiration! Thanks for sharing! :)

I love using anything vintage, ephemera, game pieces, photo slides, etc….the unexpected makes it fun

  17. Karen Lingel says:

I got a jar of texture medium in “sand” texture that I had fun playing with. I used acrylic paints to color the sand medium, then spread it over a rock-shaped cutout, and used a popsicle stick to make spiky peaks all over it. I used this on my “Tafoni” layout. (Tafoni is a lacy sandstone rock formation.) I did something similar for the title of my Canadian Geology layout. It was a lot of fun to play with.

You could also use this sand texture medium for beach layouts, say on a sand castle die cut!

Right now I am playing with something called “paper frosting” that I got at a CK convention. It is kinda like spackle (maybe it IS spackle?) in pretty pastel colors. It spreads like frosting, and dries matte. I’ve been spreading it on stamped images of cupcakes and ice cream cones and sprinkling on glitter before it dries, or decorating with glitter glue swirls after it dries.

And I have not done enough playing with shimmering mist sprays yet. So many things to play with — so little time!

Thanks for the opportunity to win.
    Karen

I love to decoupage anything like dried peas, old jewelry, fabric, napkins from a favorite restaurant. I also use modge podge to coat over thickers and any chip art to give it a nice sheen. They probably are not archival safe but by the time it starts to “decay” or “fade” will be many years from now and that will be my sons problem. LOL!!!!
