Weekly Warm-Up: Patchwork Chevron Technique from SEI

Hello, scrapbooking friends! We at SEI Crafts are thrilled to be guest blogging here on the Creating Keepsakes blog. Today, we would like to share an amazing technique we think you’ll love: embellishing your scrapbooking layouts using pretty handmade patchwork chevrons—and, of course, we have a giveaway!

Handmade Patchwork Chevrons

We used papers and embellishments from our Field Notes collection to create this layout. The inspiration to create the patchwork chevron design came from a technique we teach in one of our classes. It’s a great, simple way to use paper to add dimension to your layout.

There are so many possibilities for using this technique, depending on what size you make your papers and how you arrange the design. This is the original design that inspired us. Notice how we did one row on this layout and gradated the colors across the layout.

Ready to learn how to use this technique?

Here is a simple tutorial to show you how:

1. Cut several 1 1/2″ x 3″ strips of double-sided patterned paper. We used 14 pieces for the “Perfect” layout above.
2. Take the top left corner and fold it down to the bottom edge. Then fold the bottom right corner to the top edge. Fold about half of your pieces this way, depending on your design. We folded eight like this for the “Perfect” layout.
3. For the rest of your pieces, fold the bottom left corner to the top edge. Then fold the top right corner to the bottom edge. We folded six like this for our design.
4. Place adhesive on the back of each piece. Now for the fun part, arranging your design! Enjoy trying something new by mixing up your colors and placing the rows right next to each other, or follow our pattern to create a patchwork chevron look.
