Whether you’re decorating a home, putting together an outfit or finishing a scrapbook page, the details are what can take your work from boring to brilliant.
For this layout, Designer Jaime Warren chose to accent her photos with bits and pieces, of Composition & Color from Allison Kreft Designs for Webster’s Pages, allowing her to add tons of detail without sacrificing her clean style.
Adding finishing touches is super easy…and you can do it without ending up with a catch-all layout. Here are three easy ways:
- Punch it out. Border punches are a quick and easy way to add visual interest. On this layout, Jaime punched edges of patterned paper strips and attached them to the sides of her layout. It’s a simple addition, but it makes the page more interesting to look at.
- Hand-cut a pattern. It’s sometimes difficult to think of cutting a beautiful sheet of patterned paper, but trimming sections out is a fabulous way to add detail. Jaime cut small sections of hexagons and used foam adhesive to make them jump off the page. She adhered them in three spots, creating a visual triangle that balances everything perfectly.
- Think small. Add color in small doses with dots of mist or paint. Add little bits of texture by trimming the edges of a doily and layering them in with your patterns. Position three small copies of the same photo turning it into a design element that packs a punch.
