CK Sketches: A Twist on the Mar/Apr Sketch by Gretchen McElveen

Dream Team Member Gretchen McElveen

Hi! Happy Thursday everyone.

Gretchen here with a take on the CK Sketch in the new March/April 2013 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine, available now at ck.com.

I hope my layout inspires you to give this latest sketch a tryon your next scrapbook project. The sketch is perfect for any occassion!

There is a twist though: I only used the right side of the sketch! Sketches for 2-page layouts are really 3 sketches in 1! Using just the right-hand page of the sketch, here is the layout I made:

In Concert by Gretchen McElveen

I thought the circles would be a good way to make me branch out a little bit. And I was right!

I put my circle punches to good use here. I used a 3″ circle punch to crop the 3 photos. Then I used a 1″ circle punch to create the scalloped border across the page.

I must admit to stealing the title of this layout from another layout I have in this issue.

What can I say? I had a bit of “title block” when making this page! :)

One more fun thing on this layout…

See the “sweet memories are woven with good times” border?

Well, I actually cut that from the strip on the bottom of a sheet of patterned paper that holds the bar code. This particular patterned paper is from Close to My Heart. It’s like they didn’t want me to waste a single bit of their pretty paper! Lots of companies are doing this now too, so don’t just throw that strip away after you cut it off! See if you can use it!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by the blog today!

:)

A lovely layout! I’m glad to see a layout that isn’t too complicated. I like to be able to see the photos and not have them “overwhelmed” by the embellishments. Nice to see Close To My Heart getting some press lately too – one of my favourites!

I love your layout. Perfect timing too. I’m going to use this LO for my nieces birthday party that’s this Saturday. I think it will be perfect for all the pictures I hope to get for her Under the Sea, 4th birthday celebration. I think the sketch really is a great design for the party atmosphere. Thanks for such an inspiring LO. It’s beautiful. Oh, and thanks for the tip on the title strip on the patterned paper. So many of the papers have such colorful titles. I’m just glad you brought it to my attention. I can’t believe I overlooked that for so long! lol. I’m sure I will be able to use many of them in the future.

Aw, this was a seriously nice post. In thought I would like to put in writing like this in addition – taking time and actual effort to make a rather superb article?- but what can I say?- I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get something accomplished.
