Keller’s Creations began in May 2002, and was named after my son, Keller. Since day one, we’ve been committed to saving scrappers & crafters time & money with products for projects that are fast & easy & cute. We’ve also made all of our products right here in the US. It shouldn’t cost a fortune or take forever to make a layout or a card that you’re proud of, and we prove that every day with our products.
A little bit more about me…
How did you start your company?
After owning a retail scrapbook store from 1998-2001, I sold it to a friend so that I could take care of my grandmother who lived with us and had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. There were a lot of sleepless nights during that time, which gave me time to work on little projects…and the next thing I knew I had tons of pre-made tags that I began selling to store owners whom I’d become friends with while owning mine. Within a few months, Keller’s Creations was born! When my grandmother progressed to the point that she had to be in a full time care unit, my son Keller (who was just 6 then) and I began a cross country journey teaching in local stores & selling our products, one store at a time. Eleven years later, Keller is now 17 and we have a full product line. We can be found at every CKC, teaching and exhibiting. And, we are oh, so proud of producing every piece of our line right here in the US!
Where do you find your inspiration?
Everywhere! I find inspiration for colors in the world around me…people and places that mean a lot to me personally. All 12 of our collections are named for just that, and the colors represent them, too. Our Farmhouse Collection has the colors I see when I look outside my windows at home…Super Dave is for my crazy brother…and Papa’s Collection has the colors that remind me of my Papa working on any of his many projects, thus, Worn Out Jeans & Rusty Tools & Gun Metal Grey are really near & dear to my heart. As for types of products, I am usually looking for a quicker, easier way to do something. For example, our Rings came about from my aggravation with most circle cutters I had tried. When I figured out we could make a photo look like it had been cropped & matted with just using a pair of scissors, I knew that product would be a huge success!
Do you prefer to create by yourself, in a small group, or at a large gathering? Why?
All of the above! I still love the quiet time in the middle of the night, when Keller and the dogs are asleep, to work on projects. But, in my crazy world as a self-employed single mom, I create anywhere & everywhere I can…usually ’10 minutes at the time’. Sometimes that means sketching ideas while sitting in an airport on the way home from a CKC…or laying out a page at a crop event full of folks…or a night at home cropping with just a couple friends. Luckily, I always have so many ideas spinning around in my head, that I can create something whenever and wherever opportunity presents itself!
