Hi friends,
Does the term “mixed media” give you chills of excitement or make you break out in a sweat? If chills of excitement is you, then you need to submit to our current call for the Creating Keepsakes Mixed Media, Vol. 2 special issue.
Here are two of the submission calls to give you an idea of what we’re looking for.
Metallics without the Head Banging
No need to use heavy metal on your layouts, gold leaf, rhinestones, embossing powders, metallic pens, and more are the perfect way to add metallic elements to your layout. Think copper, gold, silver, platinum, bronze, or colored metals. Make your pages shine!
Whether natural or synthetic, mixed media wouldn’t be complete without adding fabric, lace, wood, hemp, burlap, twine, etc. We want to see how you alter and use these fibers in your mixed media artwork. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Weave different fibers together to create a photo mat
- Create a stitched scene on burlap using twine or embroidery floss
- Build your entire layout on linen, canvas, or wood
- Use fibers to create unique embellishments or add to pre-made accents
What is Mixed Media?
Mixed media is very simple here at Creating Keepsakes. It is the use of two or more mediums such as clay, ink, canvas, wax paper, and more to create a background, accent, journaling block, title, or anything on your layout. Need a visual? Here’s a few projects from our first Mixed Media Scrapbooking special issue.

We Are a Colorful Bunch created by Liz Hicks

Bloom Canvas created by Stacy Cohen

Our Time created by Iris Uy
Have I peaked your interest? Grab your supplies and start mixing those mediums as you create beautiful mixed media layouts. Make sure you get them submitted no later than April 1, 2013.
Have fun creating!
