National Scrapbooking Day Challenge: Edit a Photo

Stacy Croninger - Digital Managing Editor

Hi friends!

Are you enjoying this wonderful National Scrapbooking Day? I know I am. I love trying new things and getting ideas from others and that’s what National Scrapbooking Day does – connects people that love this hobby.

For the next challenge, we’re going to work with your photos, we’re going to modify them in some way. You do not need any software or a computer for this challenge. I’ll give you a few ideas that don’t involve editing with a computer.

Before starting this challenge, make sure the photo(s) you use are not originals or the only copy you have, especially if you are working on the photo and not using software to make changes to them. Here are a few ideas for editing a photo (I’m sure you can come up with more):

  • Stamp on your photo
  • Layer a printed transparency over your photo
  • Crop your photo to create layers or different shapes
  • Create a scene using your photos (combine several photos together or place them side by side to create the scene)
  • Add journaling over your photo
  • Change the color of your photo (black & white, sepia, spot color)

Look at this creative way Cindy Tobey layered a typed story over her daughter’s photo to create a funky look in the July/August 2012 issue. You can accomplish this using photo editing software or writing on a transparency and then layering it over your photo.
