CKU San Diego, What A Blast!

Annette Hardy, Event Coordinator

CKU San Diego was a blast; Students basked in the almost sunny Town & Country Hotel with its nostalgic feel and beautiful scenery.

As students signed in for the event and received their registration bag, they were whisked away into scrapbooking delight as their weekend began with a “fanciful” album project by Fancy Pants Designs. Three hours of creative inspiration and learning right at the start!

But the fun didn’t stop there, Thursday evening the students re-convened for a night of creative bliss with a trend setting domino necklace project that not only expressed their sassy personality but defined which album track they were taking.

The first day was eventful enough for most but for many the fun began early in the am with A La Carte classes  beginning at 9 am. Some just couldn’t wait to get their scrap on and who could argue with that, so we appeased with three fun A La Carte classes to choose from including an acryllic travel album, chalkboard art, and a mixed media album cover.

Shopping, shopping and more shopping, deals galore were at hand and the students couldn’t seem to get enough. Sizzix and Bella and Lawn Fawn oh my, Echo Park and Webster’s the lists were miles high!

Then the time came for the students to really get to work. Friday morning finally arrived and depending on what attendee’s signed up for it was time for them to attend their chosen album track or class rotation with their friends. Below are some class photos from an array of the four core classes offered, amazing teachers represented companies such as Close To My Heart, Sizzix, Bella Blvd, and Lawn Fawn.

If you didn’t have your core class with friends on Friday then you participated in your chosen 7 hour album track.  This class gave the students some great one on one with their album track instructor, learning the hottest techniques and receiving all of the product for a 12” x 12” album. Let’s take a look at some of the fun they had.

Evenings were filled with even more fun, crops, prizes and another bonus project, can you say Cute Canvas? Well, they can and did, each student was given a wide variety of papers to choose from with silhouettes and quotes to express their individual creativity.

It was a fun filled weekend jam-packed with amazing teachers, beautiful students, and bonding like no other type of event can bring you. If you missed out on CKU in San Diego, don’t fret, there are two more Creating Keepsakes Universities this year with just as much fun in store, so Save the Date for CKU-Stamford September 5-7, 2013, or CKU-Dallas October 10-12, 2013. 1. Awe! Great times. Love seeing all of these pics of our fun and creative friends. Thanks to all who came out to play the weekend away in San Diego! I hope we can do it all again sometime.

Fun, fun, fun… Besides the great picture of Lisa and I at the end and spending time with my bestest friend, CKU San Diego reignited my love for scrapbooking. I found myself drowning in ‘stuff” and not actually creating at home. At CKU, I learned so many new techniques – with loads of help from “the geek” (Megan) and the other wonderful instructors. Since June, I have created more pages than I had in all of 2013! It was truly a gift from some very inspiring, generous, and talented ladies!

Wow I have never been to a CKU but it sure looks great.

This brings back memories of the 2012 San Jose CKU, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Please please please have more CKUs in San Jose!
