Get Ready to Mix Your Mediums!

Stacy Croninger – Digital Managing Editor

Hi everyone,

We’re so excited – Mixed Media, vol. 2 goes on sale Tuesday, September 17! This special issue is full of techniques, inspiration, and amazing step photos. In case you think you’re not a mixed media person, we define mixed media as using two or more mediums together. Mediums include, but are not limited to, fabric, colors, metals, modeling, fibers, found items, and so much more. Let me give you a few examples.

In Snapshots of a Boy by Joannie McBride, she combined burlap and twine to create a custom border. She used a simple running stitch with the twine down the middle of the burlap.

Check out Keri Babbitt’s layout BDay Glam that uses straws (found around the house) and acrylic paint to create a playful background. Her straw had a texture to it which transferred to the painted background as it was rolled across the paint. Plus, she used a straw as an accent piece.

You’ll notice that these two examples include how-to equations (this + that = technique), which you’ll find in other sections too. For more involved techniques, you’ll find step images showing key things you’ll need to do when recreating the technique. Mixed Media, vol. 2 is not just an inspiration book, but a resource as well.

Today is the first day of Mixed Media, vol. 2 week so come back each day for more peeks at what you’ll find in this special issue. And remember, it goes on sale tomorrow – Tuesday, September 17 so check your local stores or head over to our online store. Or leave me a comment here by midnight Friday, September 20 telling me how you include mixed media in your scrapbook pages (or what you’d like to try) and you could be randomly chosen to win a copy of Mixed Media, vol. 2. (International winners, you’ll be given a download for a PDF version of the magazine.)

See you tomorrow!
