Scrapbook How-to: Layer Vellum with Patterned Paper

Nearly transparent and more delicate than cardstock or patterned paper, vellum brings unique qualities to your scrapbooking.

Mou Saha layered vellum over patterned paper on her My Houseplants layout from Scrapbooking Tips & Tricks: Paper Palooza. She selected a design that she could easily cut with a craft knife and used colored vellum that blended beautifully with her patterned paper.

Tips for success:

  • Different weights, opacities, and colors of vellum are available. Experiment with various types to find which you prefer to work with.
  • Vellum is easy to see through, so tracing an image to cut out is very simple. You can also cut out a shape using a die-cutting machine.
  • If you’re concerned about seeing the adhesive through the vellum on your layout, consider spray adhesive or look for adhesives specially formulated to work with vellum.
